My daughter and I had the opportunity to review the Revolve 2010 Magazine/New Testament. I think Revolve is a great opportunity for every girl to attend. I have heard so many great things about it, although my daughter and I have not had to luxury of attending. So when we had the opportunity to review the latest and greatest Magazine, we were thrilled.
My daughter has looked over this more thoroughly than I. So I asked her to write the rest of the review.
She made a list of things she did like, and things that she didn't like. The Didn't like it blank! What she liked about it is:
She liked that it carried the New Testament. But mingled in the New Testament was a plethora of teen girl information. From Beauty tips, home remedies, words to live by, facts of life, fashion, Quizzes, devotions and prayers. She liked that Bible Verses that had key information where highlighted.
We both think that this is something every girl should dig into. With the many magazine out there for teens, this one is a sure bet that your girl will get the information God would like for her to have!

Let Go, Sheila Walsh
I am a huge Women of Faith Fan! I was thrilled with the opportunity to read Sheila's new book, Let Go. This book is broken down into 18 chapters. Each chapter is a an area in everyones life that you may have something you need to let go of. Sheila shares personal stories of her life, which makes it relatable.
In the beginning of the book Sheila talks about a struggle that her and her husband had been in. She didn't give all of the details about that. I knew there had to be more to the story. A few weeks after I started to read this book, I had the opportunity to go to A WOF conference. She told the whole story at that time. At that moement it clicked! I could see where this book was coming from. We all have struggles of some sort. Actually going to a Woman of Faith conference gives each of the authors a greater personal intimacy. I enjoy reading an authors books when I have seen them in person.
This book will give you practical advice on areas you may be struggling. I highly reccomend this book. It is lighthearted, easy to read, put down and pick up again. I read this over several months.

The Sweet By and By
I just finished reading the Sweet By And By by Sara Evans, and Rachel Hauck. I am giving this book a big thumbs up. The story line is good. Some of it was predictable, but still a good read. The story is easy to follow, as the author states, it is about looking backward while moving forward. That is so hard to do sometimes. Sometimes your past can haunt you, and it is hard to move forward.
Jade the main character is searching for love. I do believe this book was a breathe of fresh air. I enjoy reading, and search for new authors frequently. This is one author that I would choose to read again.
Void of premarital sex, a book that doesn't need to use swearing in the diaglogue, this is refreshing. I try to stick to Christian based novels for that reason.
I highly reccomend purchasing this book. It is a good beach read, or curling up on the couch with a cup of hot cocoa kind of read. Easy to pick up and put down, and then get right back in to it.

Fearless by Max lucado
I was able to get a copy of Max Lucado's new release a few weeks ago. I have several copies of Max Lucado books, but simply have not taken the time to read them. When I was able to read this book before it was even released, I was thrilled. So, the book came and I have to say it is what every says about Max Lucado's writing. It is an awesome book. I keep hearing about Lucado's writing style. I have two of his devotionals and enjoy them.
Fearless takes issues that are ever present today, and addresses them Biblically. For many it is the economy right now that is causing fear. That is at the forefront of everyone's mind. Chapter six and seven use Lamentations for Biblical reference, I have not studied that book much, but saw some familiar Bible verses from there. So it was nice to see those references.
Lucado takes everyone's everyday fears, and eloquently and gently shows you why you should't be afraid. He does this in a non threatening way. Everyone has fears, but the Bible is full of ways that we work through them, and become the person that God would have us be.
Weather you are a Max Lucado fan or not, this book is sure to please everyone. Simple, short chapters with a disscussion guide in the back...makes this a book for small groups, couples or even by yourself. Enjoy.

Book Reveiw
Christianity Today Study Series: Faith & Pop Culture
I currently homeschool one of my children. We have been talking about how the media plays in to what we think. We used the book Sex, Lies and the media. It was really eye opening to my teen and I. IT has made him think about what the media is really telling him.
So when I had the chance to review Christianity Today study series I thought it was the perfect tie in to our previous book. I dug right in to the study. There is a lot of good content, and thought provoking insites. I do think it would have been better if I had done this with a small group. The book consists of 8 chapters, and is set up in a format to let you decide on your answers through scripture research. that is where I think doing this with a small group would give you more insites. The book doesn't attempt to answer the questions for you in anyway.
The study did give me a different view of some things that I can pull the good out of, for instance art, movies, tv. With so much of what is on tv now a days, it is hard to pull the good. But I can use the so called "bad" things on tv and turn them into learning and thought provoking teaching moments for my children.
In the future I think I will use this book in a small group setting. I was able to use some of what I read, but I think I will get more out of the study by doing it with a small group. There is always better discussion and points brought out with a small group.
